A 50-year-old man pushing a shopping cart across a busy road in unincorporated Azusa was struck and killed by a pickup truck.

The California Highway Patrol identified the man Saturday as Ricardo Arteaga.

Arteaga was struck at 8:45 p.m. Friday while crossing the 17200 block of East Arrow Highway in the unincorporated area of Vincent, according to the CHP. He was pronounced dead at 11:23 p.m. at County/USC Medical Center.

Crossing northbound from the southern sidewalk, Arteaga was hit by a 2005 Dodge Ram going westbound on Arrow Highway, east of Homerest Avenue in the No. 1 lane.

The impact caused Arteaga’s shopping cart to hit the front of a 1995 Ford, which was stopped in the eastbound No. 1 lane.

No one was arrested, and alcohol was not suspected to be a factor in the crash, according to officials.

Anyone who witnessed the crash was asked to contact the CHP’s Baldwin Park-area station at (626) 338-1164.
