A car sheared a fire hydrant Thursday in Hollywood, sending up a geyser of  water that hit high-voltage lines, resulting in explosions and knocking out electricity to 114 customers, authorities said.

The non-injury accident occurred in the 6700 block of Santa Monica Boulevard about 7 a.m., said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was notified and the lines were de-energized as a safety measure while the water was shut off, Scott said.

Crews worked to restore electrical service, said Jason Stinnett of the LADWP.

Scott reminded people to stay away from downed power lines.

The woman driving the car was interviewed by police but was not arrested or cited, said Los Angeles Police Officer Jack Richter. The circumstances of Thursday’s accident were under investigation.
