Officers responded to a report of a neighbors dispute and were directed to an adjoining house, LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery told ABC7.
Montgomery said the officers were then confronted by a 30-year-old man who struck them in the head and shoulders with a hard object, at which point both officers opened fire on him. Police later said the “hard object” was a 4- foot-long metal contractor’s level.
Both officers were hospitalized for treatment of moderate injuries, Montgomery said. Authorities withheld the name of the dead man, pending family notification.
