Human remains were discovered Monday in the Santa Clara Riverbed near the Saugus area of Santa Clarita.

The unidentified remains were found around 9:40 a.m. near Bouquet Canyon Road and Lowes Plaza, said Deputy Amber Smith of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“Detectives have learned that earlier this morning during a cleanup in the Santa Clara Riverbed, a worker discovered human skeletal remains,” Smith said. “Sex, age and cause of death will be determined at a later date by the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.”

The remains were described by the coroner’s office as “skeletal.”
