Lt. Ron McDonald will mark his 50th year of continuous service as a sworn officer with the Pomona Police Department Tuesday.

McDonald is the watch commander in the Operations Division, with duties including overseeing two patrol squads and the community service officers who staff the front desk in the main station lobby, said Pomona Police Capt. Michael Ellis.

McDonald’s past assignments have included stints as a patrol officer, major narcotics sergeant, Detective Bureau sergeant, helicopter observer, and Special Operations lieutenant, Ellis said.

Prior to joining the Pomona department, McDonald spent two years as a reserve officer and dispatcher with the West Covina Police Department, Ellis said.

“It’s been an enjoyable and fulfilling career,” McDonald said.
