A diaper importer from South Korea, who’s suspected of bilking investors out of millions of dollars, was deported and turned over to law enforcement officers in his native country Wednesday, federal authorities said.
Kyuseop Maeng, 50, was accompanied by Los Angeles-based officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement aboard a commercial airliner, ICE reported.
Maeng was charged with fraud in a criminal warrant issued in January 2011 by South Korean authorities, who allege that he embezzled the equivalent of $3.5 million from investors in his trading company in 2010.
He entered the United States in December 2010 and obtained a foreign student visa, according to ICE.
Officers arrested Maeng in Hacienda Heights on June 11, and an immigration judge ordered him removed from the U.S.
