A 25-year-old man was shot and killed and a pregnant woman wounded in an attack on a street in an unincorporated area between Monrovia and Duarte, authorities said Monday.
The shootings took place about 7 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Shrode Street and Lincoln Avenue, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Kelvin Moody said.
The man was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene, Moody said.
He was identified as Daniel Chavez, whose city of residence of was unknown, Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said.
The woman was wounded in a leg and taken to a hospital where her vital signs were stable, Moody said.
Her name has not been released. She is 30 years old and pregnant, Lt. Holly Francisco of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau told the Pasadena Star-News.
Investigators do not believe the victims knew one another, as they were found on the sidewalk several addresses apart, Francisco told the newspaper.
