A 31-year-old man was shot and killed in Rosemead by another man who committed suicide as deputies closed in to arrest him, authorities said Wednesday.
The first shooting took place in the 2700 block of Willard Avenue about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff’s Sgt. Abi Ben-Sahille said.
“Deputies responded to a report of an Asian male who had been shot at that location,” Ben-Sahille said.
The victim was found lying in a driveway, according to Deputy Kelvin Moody. He was identified by the coroner’s office as Eagan Tun.
The suspect, dressed in black, fled the scene on foot after the first shooting and was pursued by deputies on Willard Avenue, according to Ben- Sahille and Moody.
“As the deputies prepared to arrest the gunman, he shot himself once in the head,” Ben-Sahille added.
Ben-Sahille said that both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Moody said the gunman was 32 years old.
“We don’t know yet what precipitated the first shooting,” Ben-Sahille said. “Both people knew each other but we’re not sure what their relationship was.”
“There are no outstanding suspects and there were no other injuries,” Ben-Sahille said.
The suspect’s semi-automatic hand gun was recovered at the scene, Moody added.
