The California Supreme Court refused Wednesday to review the case against a man convicted of the shooting death of an El Camino Real High School student and soccer goalie who was killed outside his family’s home in Winnetka.

Jason Alejandro Schumann was found guilty in September 2013 of first- degree murder for the Jan. 11, 2012, killing of 17-year-old Francisco “Pancho” Rodriguez.

The teenager — who had just returned home from a soccer game — was shot several times in the chest and back after he responded to a knock on the front door of his home in the 6900 block of Cozycroft Avenue.

Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman said Schumann, then 24, was jealous because his girlfriend had led him to believe that she had been sexually involved with the victim.

In June, a three-justice panel from California’s 2nd District Court of Appeal rejected the defense’s contention that there were errors in Schumann’s trial.

The appellate court justices found in their 27-page ruling that “sufficient evidence of premeditation supports defendant’s conviction, including evidence in both the planning and motive categories.”

Schumann was sentenced in October 2013 to 50 years to life in state prison.
