CHP officers Thursday were trying to figure out why a man was walking on a Southland freeway when he was killed by passing vehicles in a hit-and-run killing.
The pedestrian was fatally struck on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Carson by one or more vehicles, and all the motorists involved fled, authorities said Thursday.
The male victim was struck near the East Carson Street exit around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The southbound lanes of the freeway were closed down at Avalon Boulevard after the accident, according to the CHP. There was no immediate word on when they will be reopened.
The fatality was being investigated as a hit-and-run, a CHP officer said.
