A blaze heavily damaged a commercial building in Huntington Park Monday and left a firefighter with a minor injury.
The fire, which sent up a huge plume of black smoke, was reported about 9:05 a.m. in the 5600 block of Soto Street and continued smoldering for hours after firefighters brought it under control, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Personnel from the Los Angeles city and Vernon fire departments assisted county firefighters in battling the blaze.
County fire Inspector Randall Wright said the flames burned through the roof of the single-story building, and firefighters went into a defensive posture, working to contain the fire from spreading to other structures.
By about 3 p.m, crews had the blaze under control but continued to go through smoldering debris with a bulldozer. A knock-down was finally declared at 5:04 p.m., a dispatcher said.
It was not immediately known what sparked the fire.
