A man and woman were killed Sunday night and two others were critically injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Hacienda Heights, authorities said.

The crash involving at least two vehicles, a pickup truck and a black sedan, took place on the eastbound 60 Freeway about 7 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Michele Bond.

The force of the collision sent the sedan veering off the freeway. It landed on its roof in a Denny’s parking lot by the Seventh Avenue offramp, according to Bond.

County firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene.

The two victims were initially trapped in their car, according to the CHP.

The man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene and two other people were taken to a hospital for treatment, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Kyle Sanford.

The names of the deceased were withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The CHP shut down the Seventh Avenue offramp fro the death investigation and a SigAlert was declared at 7:15 p.m., according to the CHP. It’s unknown how long the offramp would be closed.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation by the CHP.
