A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy was being treated Monday for a leg wound inflicted by a department colleague who accidentally fired a personal weapon during a camping trip in Kern County, officials said.
The accidental shooting occurred in a remote area of Kern County Sunday morning and involved deputies from the sheriff’s Palmdale station, according to a department statement.
The wounded deputy was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life- threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s department. But officials did not immediately say if he will be able to resume work.
The sheriff’s Internal Affairs and Homicide bureaus are investigating the incident, as is the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, said Deputy Mike Barraza of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
