Authorities Tuesday identified a bicyclist who was killed by a hit-and-run driver, who was arrested a short time later.

Jose Ruiz-Villanueva, 44, of La Puente was struck shortly before midnight in the 1100 block of South Valinda Avenue, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. He died at the scene.

Presley Danielle Rodriguez, 25, of Glendora was booked on suspicion of “felony DUI causing great bodily injury or death” and felony hit-and-run, and she was held on $100,000 bail, the West Covina Police Department reported.

Rodriguez was scheduled to appear in court in West Covina on Thursday, police said.

An officer who was in the area heard the crash, saw the suspect’s vehicle leaving the scene, and pulled it over, police said.

Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call police at (626) 939-8557.
