A man attending a Halloween parade Friday at his daughter’s elementary school in Monterey Park was arrested after allegedly taking a swing at an officer who tried to usher him to another area of campus.

Officers were called about 9:30 a.m. to Ynez Elementary School, 120 S. Ynez Ave., on a report of a man causing a disturbance, according to a Monterey Park police dispatcher.

The man was in an area where students were congregating and was asked by teachers to remove himself from that area, the dispatcher said.

At some point, school officials called police. When officers arrived, the man became belligerent and took a swing at one of them, according to the dispatcher, who said the parent was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police and taken to jail.

The dispatcher could not provide the man’s name or age, and a watch commander was not immediately available for comment.
