Halloween may be one of the busiest days of the year for the Party City store chain, a major retail supplier of costumes, masks and other scary, fun stuff.

But a Party City outlet in San Dimas suddenly was the site of a real-life tragedy on the big day when a Mercedes crashed into the business, injuring four people, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.

A 14-year-old girl suffered moderate injuries while three others were hurt, but not as badly. It wasn’t clear if the injured were shopping in the store or if any of them were in the car.

The accident happened at 12:05 p.m. Saturday at the Party City at 852 W. Arrow Highway, said Lt. T. Edwards of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s San Dimas Station.

The 14-year-old girl was airlifted to County-USC Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries, Edwards said. Three other people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, she said. The Mercedes was driven by a 35-year-old woman. There was no immediate word of the cause of the crash.

The San Dimas Building and Safety Department was contacted to evaluate the damage, Edwards said. The store was open for business when contacted by City News Service, according to a district manager.
