Sheriff’s homicide detectives Monday were investigating the discovery of human remains in the Lake Hughes area of the Angeles National Forest.

The remains were found by hunters about 7 p.m. Saturday in a remote area of Pine Canyon, near the Upper Shake Campground, said Deputy Juanita Navarro- Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The hunters climbed down a mountain and reported the find to the sheriff’s Palmdale Station. Detectives, sheriff’s crime lab and county coroner’s personnel and a cadaver dog went to the scene on Sunday, Navarro- Suarez said.

Coroner’s personnel determined the remains were human, and homicide detectives “are investigating if there was any trauma or evidence of an injury on the remains …,” Navarro-Suarez said.
