A fire damaged several businesses in a commercial building in San Pedro Monday, causing the roof to collapse and leaving a fire captain hospitalized, authorities said.
The fire at 524 S. Pacific Ave. broke out at 4:15 a.m. and 140 firefighters extinguished the flames in two hours and nine minutes, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
Among the businesses damaged by the fire were a fitness company and a clothing retailer, Humphrey said.
A fire captain was taken to a hospital for treatment of “exertion,” and he was listed in good condition, Humphrey said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
Streets near the fire scene were shut down during the firefighting effort and Metro lines 246 and 450 were interrupted, with buses having to detour around Pacific.
