Deputies rescued an 8-year-old pit bull from a house fire in Altadena Thursday.
The fire was reported at 2:13 p.m. at a one-story, single-family home in the 600 block of East Sacramento Street, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
No one was injured in the blaze, which was knocked down within 30 minutes, county fire Inspector Randall Wright said.
Deputies from the sheriff’s Altadena Station were first on scene “and saw thick black smoke pouring out of the closed doors and windows,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
“The deputies shouted out and heard faint barking from inside the house,” officials said. “All the doors were locked tight, and not knowing if anyone was in the house, the deputies kicked in a side door and went inside. Fighting through choking black smoke, three deputies checked every room in the house and only found Roxy, an 8-year-old female pit bull in the living room.”
The dog was afraid and would not walk past the room that was on fire, despite the calls of deputies.
One of the deputies took a restraint device from his belt, attached it to the dog and led her out of the house, according to the sheriff’s department.
