A Long Beach Police Department Officer responding to a call for assistance was injured in a fight with a bar patron.
The injured officer was hospitalized for evaluation, Long Beach Police Lt. Jeff Berkenkamp said.
The confrontation occurred outside the La Playa bar in the 1800 block of Pacific Avenue around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Berkenkamp said.
The officer was responding to a call of an assault at the bar, and was injured during a use of force with the suspect, a man in his late 20s, Berkenkamp said.
Responding officers used a carotid restraint on the suspect, who was also hospitalized as a precaution, Berkenkamp said.
