A “tragic” family dispute turned deadly Thursday as two arguing relatives were killed in a gunfight and another family member was wounded during the battle in the South Los Angeles area, police said.
The shootings occurred about 11 a.m. in the 1100 block of West 55th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Two people died at the scene and the third person was taken to a hospital with wounds that were not life-threatening, police said. LAPD Cmdr. Phil Tingirides told NBC4 that everyone involved in the violence was related.
“This is a really tragic situation,” Tingirides said.
Tingirides said there was a family dispute, a fight broke out and someone pulled out a gun, killing one person and wounding another. Another family member then retrieved another gun and fatally shot the killer, Tingirides said. Broadcast reports indicated the person who shot the killer was not taken into custody as it may be a case of justifiable homicide.
Gender and age information was not immediately available on those involved in the dispute.
