A small plane struck a perimeter fence and caught fire upon landing at Brackett Field in La Verne Thursday afternoon, injuring the pilot, officials said.
The plane crashed about 1:40 p.m. on the far northeast end of the airport and became fully engulfed in flames, said La Verne Fire Department Deputy Marshall Rafaela Giles.
The pilot, who got out of the plane on his own, was airlifted to County- USC Medical Center, she said.
She did not know the patient’s gender, age or condition, but reports from the scene indicated the pilot was a man who was conscious and talking to rescue personnel before being taken to the hospital.
Allen Kenitzer of the Federal Aviation Administration said the plane hit a perimeter fence while landing.
The type of aircraft involved was not immediately available.
