A 29-year-old man was hospitalized with head trauma after being set upon by five known gang members in Echo Park.
The assault occurred near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and North Beaudry Avenue, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Melvin Gamble said.
Surveillance cameras captured the incident, and Rampart gang officers believed they recognized the four men and a woman who carried out the assault early Saturday, Gamble said.
