Four men fishing about four miles off the coast of Long Beach were rescued Wednesday after their 20-foot boat capsized, authorities said.

Personnel aboard a passing tanker ship saw the men in the water about 6:20 a.m. and notified the U.S. Coast Guard, said Jake Heflin of the Long Beach Fire Department.

The Coast Guard notified the fire department, rescue boats were quickly sent to the scene, and the men were pulled from the water and brought to shore, Heflin said.

The men had been in the water for about an hour, and they were cold but otherwise OK, Heflin said. They were medically assessed, and then were released, Heflin said.
