A man fatally wounded at the Nickerson Gardens housing project in Watts crashed a car into another vehicle as he fled the shooting scene, injuring five other people before being taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Los Angeles County firefighters were called to Imperial Highway and Alameda Street in Lynwood at 9:49 p.m. Friday to tend to the injured, Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman told City News Service.

Paramedics took the dying gunshot victim and five others to hospitals for treatment, Pittman said.

The shooting was likely gang-related, said Sgt. V. Valenti of the Los Angeles Police Department‘s Southeast Station.

The LAPD was investigating the homicide and the California Highway Patrol was investigating the crash on the border of Lynwood and the unincorporated Willowbrook area, Valenti said.
