A young man was shot twice while he and his friends were sitting in a parked car in the El Sereno section of Los Angeles in what may have been a gang-related attack, a police sergeant said Friday.

The attack took place near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Templeton Street about 11:40 p.m. Thursday, Los Angeles Police Sgt. John Porras told City News Service.

“We received several 911 calls, one of them from the victim, who said that he and some friends were sitting in parked car talking when a male walked up and opened fire into the car,” Porras said. “He didn’t say anything. There was no challenge or question, like where are you from. He just started shooting.”

Porras said the 20-year-old victim was shot once in the shoulder and once in the buttocks. No one else in the car was hit by any of the rounds. The victim was transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center in stable condition.

The shooter ran from the scene and no description of him was immediately available.

Anyone with information on this shooting was asked to call the LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division at (323) 342-4101. All tips can be made anonymously.
