A Metro Blue Line train struck and killed a pedestrian Thursday in the southeast Los Angeles area, authorities said.

The southbound train hit the unidentified male pedestrian about 6:30 a.m. near 41st Street, just north of the Vernon Station, said Anna Chen of Metro. He died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Train service was suspended between the Washington and Vernon stations, and buses were brought in to accommodate rail passengers, Chen said.

The tracks were reopened about 10:30 a.m., she said.
