Sheriff’s homicide detectives were investigating the shooting death of a man inside a mini-van and the wounding of a man standing outside the vehicle in the unincorporated Firestone Park area of Los Angeles County, authorities said.

The shooting took place in the 8700 block of Beach Street about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Deputy Tina Schrader.

The deceased man, a 40-year-old man, was sitting in the passenger side of the minivan, Schrader said. The second victim, a 49-year-old man who survived the attack, was standing outside when multiple suspects walked up and began firing.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital. The man inside the minivan was pronounced dead at the hospital. The surviving victim was listed in stable condition this morning, Schrader added.

The deceased man’s name was withheld pending family notification.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately determined, Schrader said. Detectives will investigate the possibility it was gang-related.

No suspect information was available.

Anyone with information on these shootings was asked to call the sheriff’s homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. All tips can be made anonymously.
