A fire fed by gas pouring out of a ruptured gas line burned for more than four hours at a home in Hacienda Heights until the line was capped early Tuesday authorities said.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury fighting the blaze at 2474 Via Cielo and was taken to a hospital, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported.
The fire was reported at 7:18 p.m. Monday, said Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman. Arriving firefighters found the home fully engulfed and assumed a defensive posture, battling the blaze from the exterior, officials said.
The flames in the house were out at 8:10 p.m., but flames fed by escaping gas continued to burn until a utility crew capped the gas line about 12:30 a.m. today, Pittman said. Firefighters put foam around it to prevent more fire.
