A six-inch water main break in the Hollywood Hills Saturday has left approximately 40 residents without any water service and at least two homes damaged due to a mudslide of about 8 feet.

The water main break in the 8500 block of Appian Way occurred at about 1:30 a.m., according to Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Amanda Parsons. An approximate time of full restoration was not immediately known.

The break caused approximately 8 feet of mud to slide against two homes, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to the location at 7:39 a.m., where transportation officials have assisted in closing off Appian Way with hard barricades. Building and Safety is assessing the structural integrity of the two damaged homes, Scott said.     No injuries have been reported, he said.
