Los Angeles police were conducting a perimeter search in Montecito Heights after five men fired upon undercover officers Wednesday afternoon.
No one was struck in the shooting, but bullets hit the officers’ vehicle, said Officer Jenny Houser of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.
The undercover officers were patrolling the area of Boundary and Mercury avenues about 3:50 p.m. in response to recent criminal activity in the area when they came under fire by men in three cars who then fled, Houser said.
Police began an extensive search of the area that continued into the night, she said.
The suspects were described as about 30 years old, Houser said. Their vehicles were described as a blue Nissan Altima, a black Lexus and a black compact car.
