Two people survived being shot at the end of a stolen vehicle pursuit that began near Carson Friday, and ended at a home in Long Beach where the gunman eventually shot himself and later died.
The incident began in the Harbor Gateway section of Los Angeles, at the corner of 223rd Street and Vermont Avenue. Two men were spotted in a stolen VW Passat, one jumped out with a gun and fired gunshots as he hijacked a red van, according to Los Angeles police Sgt. Andrew Hudlatt.
No one was hurt, and the driver of the van escaped injury.
The Passat driver also sped off, and eventually abandoned that car. He evaded police.
The red van was driven, with police close behind, to a house at 33rd Street and Magnolia Avenue in Long Beach, according to Nancy Pratt of the Long Beach Police Department.
There, the suspect ran into a house and held several people hostage, eventually shooting two and stabbing a third, Hudlatt said. The severity of those victims’ injuries was not available.
The suspect shot himself in the head. He was hospitalized and later died, according to ABC7. His name was not immediately available.
