An approximately 80-year-old man died Thursday afternoon when he was struck by an SUV in Monterey Park and dragged for at least a block.
The pedestrian was struck about 3 p.m. in the area of Hellman and Hathaway avenues, according to Alhambra and Monterey Park police.
The victim was dragged beneath the SUV to the 2400 block of South Wetherhead Drive, before the driver, a woman in her 30s, came to a stop, police said.
That’s where paramedics pronounced the victim dead, Alhambra police Sgt. Jerry Johnson said.
Eastbound Hellman Avenue was closed at Olive Avenue and westbound Hellman was closed at Atlantic Boulevard as police investigated the crash, which occurred near the border of Monterey Park and Alhambra.
Monterey Park police were handling the investigation with assistance from Alhambra police.
