A speeding motorist in a 2001 Lexus was killed when he lost control of his car and ignited a two-vehicle crash Saturday on the San Diego (405) Freeway in the Westchester area, where at least three other people were injured.

The motorist was later identified as Inglewood resident Erick Reyes, 28, said Lt. David Smith of the coroner’s office.

The collision took place on the southbound 405 Freeway near La Tijera Boulevard at 2:10 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said.     Reyes struck a 2006 Mazda that was also in the fast lane, causing both cars to lose control and spin within the lanes of the freeway, the CHP reported.

He then crossed all lanes of traffic, left the roadway and traveled down the dirt embankment and overturned. Reyes was ejected from the Lexus and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other people in the car — two women aged 26 and 25 and a 25-year- old man — were all transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in fair condition.

The driver and her occupant inside the Mazda escaped injury, the CHP reported.

The crash shut down all southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway at Jefferson Boulevard, Villalobos said. A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 2:45 a.m. The southbound lanes remained closed until the SigAlert was ended at 7:13 a.m.
