A Burbank woman and her 18-year-old daughter were killed early Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash in Pasadena that left another woman critically injured.
The collision at El Molino Avenue and Maple Street took place about 12:15 a.m., according to a Pasadena Fire Department dispatcher.
A late-model Kia Optima, going westbound on Maple Street, struck a Chevrolet Impala traveling north through the intersection of El Molino Avenue and Maple Street, said Pasadena police Lt. Pete Hettema.
The Kia was driven by a 19-year-old Pasadena woman, who was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries. Her 20-year-old male passenger, also a resident of Pasadena, was unhurt, Hettema said.
The driver of the Impala, Maria Escobedo-Torres, 42, and daughter Vanessa Escobedo, who was in the front seat passenger seat, died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
A 41-year-old woman seated in the rear of the Impala suffered critical injuries, Hettema said. Her name was not immediately released.
Two other back-seat passengers, 18- and 38-year-old men whose names were withheld, suffered minor injuries. “It is not known at this time if alcohol was involved,” according to a police statement.
The crash investigation prompted authorities to close the intersection until about 8 a.m.
