A 46-year-old man who was shot at Jesse Brewer Park near USC has died and the suspected gunman was being booked for his murder, a police sergeant said.

The shooting took place about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at the park at Exposition Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Carlton Brown, watch commander at the Southwest Division.

The victim was treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital where he later died, Brown said. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The motive for the shooting was unknown but an 18-year-old man was taken into custody and was still being processed and booked for the murder charge Tuesday night, Brown said. His name was not available.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, LAPD Officer Mike Lopez said.
