A 27-year-old Pomona man wanted for evading police and being a gang member in possession of a gun and parolee at large was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after a short chase.

Daniel Banuelos was in a white Nissan Maxima when police saw him driving at Towne and Lexington avenues about 3:15 p.m., Pomona police Lt. Alex Rilloraza said.

Officers tried a traffic stop at which time Banuelos began to flee, Rilloraza said.

During the chase, Banuelos threw a handgun from the vehicle, Rilloraza said.

The chase concluded when Banuelos hit a fence near Eleanor and 7th streets. He fled on foot, but he was spotted by an officer in a police helicopter and taken into custody.

Banuelos was the only occupant of the car.
