Heavy rain was falling when when the cab portion of a car-carrier truck overturned Sunday on Interstate 5 at Smoky Bear Road, backing up traffic about 8 miles south of the summit at the Grapevine.

The crash was at 10:48 a.m. and left all four lanes blocked. Drivers navigated on the center divider, and traffic was backed up for miles, said California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.

The freeway is estimated to be closed through 1 p.m. Southbound traffic could also get through to Los Angeles via state routes 138 and 14, through Lancaster.
