A woman was hospitalized Friday and is expected to survive after being shot in the back outside a liquor store in Compton, and the gunman who wounded her remains at large, authorities said.

The shooting took place outside a liquor store at the intersection of Alondra and Long Beach boulevards just before midnight Thursday, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Lt. David Sum said.

“She was shot in the back,” Sum said. “She was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital and is expected to survive.”

Sum said the suspect ran from the scene after the attack and no suspect information was available Friday morning. A motive for the attack was not known. The shooting is under investigation, he said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call the sheriff’s Compton station at (310) 605-6500.
