A 30-year-old motorcyclist killed in a crash in South Los Angeles involving an SUV was identified by the coroner’s office Tuesday as Marcos Morales of Lancaster.
The motorist was traveling north on Harvard Boulevard about 4:50 p.m. Friday, driving what was described as a silver or white Jeep Liberty, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The SUV pulled in front of a motorcycle that was eastbound on Florence Avenue, causing Morales to lose control of the motorcycle and slam into the roadway, police said.
“The driver stopped briefly at the scene, but then left without identifying himself or rendering aid to the victim, as required by law,” according to a police statement.
Morales was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was described as a black man in his late 40s to early 50s. The SUV had a partial plate of 6TJ.
Anyone with information that could help identify the driver was urged to call the LAPD’s South Traffic Division at (323) 421-2500. After-hours and weekend calls can be directed to (877) LAPD-24-7. Anonymous tips can be provided through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
