The Coroner’s Office Sunday released the name of the motorcyclist who was killed when he crashed a Harley Davidson into a k-rail on a long curving bridge between the Gerald Desmond Bridge and the Long Beach (710) freeway, and plummeted to a street below.
David Joseph Catena, 25, of Torrance was killed, according to coroner’s Investigator Mario Sainz.
Officers were sent at about 1:05 a.m. Saturday to investigate a report of a crash and found Catena lying on eastbound Ocean Boulevard. The Torrance resident was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Catena was operating a 2015 Harley-Davidson, heading east on the bridge transition road to the northbound 710.
“As the roadway turned from eastbound to northbound, the motorcyclist, for an unknown reason, collided with the south (railing) and was ejected from his motorcycle onto Ocean Boulevard below,” police said. “No other vehicles or parties were involved in this incident.”
