The driver of a pickup truck that slammed into a power pole, bringing three large transformers down on top of the vehicle, was killed Wednesday on a street in Arleta.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. at 13751 Osborn St., near Arleta Avenue, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Two individuals from other vehicles sustained minor injuries but declined transportation, Stewart said.

The transformers had to be de-energized so rescue crews could tear into the wreckage in hopes of pulling occupants of the vehicle to safety. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone else was inside the truck.

Ellen Cheng of the Department of Water and Power said 254 customers were left without power due to the de-energizing of the transformers. Power was restored to all customers by the evening.
