A 23-year-old man was in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail Wednesday and facing charges of driving while high on drugs after allegedly striking a woman walking in Rowland Heights, killing her.
The victim was struck about 7 p.m. Tuesday on Batson Avenue, just south of Colima Road, said California Highway Patrol Officer M. Thompson.
Yussef Hadi Afra of Hacienda Heights was driving his 2015 Honda Civic north on Batson Avenue when he struck the woman, according to Thompson.
The woman was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said. Her name was withheld pending family notification.
Afra stayed at the scene and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, according to Thompson. He was booked at L.A. County jail, he added.
Anyone with information on the accident was asked to call the CHP at (562) 868-0503.
