The coroner’s office Saturday released the names of two brothers killed in a two-car crash in Palmdale that left another person with a broken leg.
They were identified as Palmdale residents Cruz Flores, 19, and Jesus Flores, 16, according to coroner’s Lt. Dave Smith.
The crash was reported about 5:10 p.m. Friday at the T intersection at 15th Street East and Lasker Avenue, according to Lt. Ron Shaffer of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Palmdale Station.
The brothers were pronounced dead at the scene, Shaffer said.
One other person was taken to a hospital, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch supervisor.
Cruz Flores was driving a Toyota Camry, heading west on Avenue R when he made a sudden a U-turn into the path of a Buick being driven west on the same road by a 23-year-old man, Shaffer said.
The Toyota may have pulled slightly to the right before swinging the U- turn, according to the lieutenant. The Buick broadsided the Toyota on the driver’s side, he continued.
The Buick driver, also from Palmdale, was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital with a broken leg.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be factors in the collision.
The crash shut down the intersection for more than five hours.
Shaffer said the crash happened not far from the brothers’ home and Jesus was being driven to a swim practice at Drytown Water Park at 3850 E. Avenue S.
