An investigation was continuing Monday into the discovery of what appear to be human remains on a hiking trail in Altadena.
Hikers made the discovery on the Chaney Trail at Echo Mountain near Lake Avenue and Loma Alta Drive at 6:20 p.m. Sunday, said Deputy Sara Rodriguez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Corner’s investigators responded to the scene Monday morning to help with the recovery effort. Ed Winter of the coroner’s office said the remains appear to be human.
“Hikers found what appeared to be human bones on one of the trails, notified the sheriff’s department and it appears to be human — two femurs,” Winter said.
He said sheriff’s officials were “checking their database to find out if there’s any reported missings that were last seen in this area or if (there’s) somebody we can match it with.”
“Hopefully we’ll be able to find a lot more of the bones and the remains and so we can try to make an identification,” Winter said.
