A campus housing area at Cal Poly Pomona returned to normal Friday morning after sheriff’s deputies arrested three of four suspects who ran from a crashed stolen vehicle.
The crash occurred about 4:20 p.m. Thursday in the area of Valley Boulevard and Temple Avenue on the boundary separating Pomona and the unincorporated Avocado Heights area, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Three of at least four suspects were apprehended as deputies searched the University Village campus housing area at the southern end of the university, where students, faculty and staff were advised to shelter in place, according to tweets issued by the university. A nearby mobile home park was also searched.
One suspect barricaded himself in the 3000 block of Poly Vista in an unincorporated area. Sheriff’s deputies from the Walnut station set up a perimeter and brought in sheriff’s crisis negotiators, who persuaded the suspect to surrender early this morning. He was taken into custody without being injured, according to the sheriff’s department.
The fourth suspect managed to elude the manhunt and remained at large this morning, according to the sheriff’s department.
Anyone with information on the suspects was urged to call the sheriff’s department at (213) 229-1700. Information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
