A man was hit by gunfire several times in his upper torso in a deputy-involved shooting after he allegedly used his vehicle as a weapon against a sheriff’s deputy who pulled over him over in the Athens area of unincorporated Los Angeles County, the sheriff’s department reported Sunday.
The shooting occurred at about 11:10 p.m. Saturday in the area of 120th and Ainsworth streets, Deputy Mike Barraza of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
Deputies had pulled the suspect over in the 800 block of 120th Street.
“During the traffic stop, the suspect attempted to strike one of the deputies with his vehicle and a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” according to a sheriff’s department statement. “The suspect fled eastbound (on) 120th Street and out of view.”
He was later located at a hospital, where he was being treated for “numerous gunshot wounds to the upper torso,” sheriff’s officials said.
The man is expected to survive, according to the sheriff’s department.
