A 28-year-old parolee suspected of committing a series of business burglaries in Burbank’s Burbank Village and Magnolia Park district since October was arrested, police said Wednesday.
Using a variety of means, including surveillance footage from several businesses, police detectives identified Glendale resident Hakob Torosyan as a suspect. Burbank police detectives located Torosyan on Friday in Hollywood and arrested him, said Burbank police Sgt. Claudio Losacco.
More than 20 burglaries with similar modus operandi were identified as restaurants, hair salons and other small businesses. Burbank police detectives also learned that Glendale police was simultaneously investigating similar occurrences in their area, Losacco said.
Torosyan, who was on felony probation for evading a police officer, has prior convictions for theft and burglary. He was being held without bail, Losacco said.
Investigators were working to link Torosyan to as many as 11 additional burglaries in both Glendale and Burbank. Burbank and Glendale detectives have presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, who has filed 14 counts of commercial burglary against Torosyan, he said.
Torosyan is due to appear in the Burbank Branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, Losacco said.
