A 48-year-old woman was killed Wednesday in a fiery, single-vehicle crash in Palmdale.
The crash on Avenue N-8, west of 36th Street West, occurred at approximately 10:42 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer J. Picker.
A passerby spotted a 2008 Kia several hundred feet off the roadway, in the desert. The vehicle had traveled from Avenue N-8 in a northeasterly direction into the desert and became stuck on a large sage brush, Picker said.
For unknown reasons, the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The driver of the car, a resident of Palmdale, was unable to exit the vehicle and died at the scene, Picker said. Neither alcohol nor drugs appears to be a factor in the crash, Picker said.
The name of the motorist will be released pending notification of next of kin, according to the coroner’s office.
