A collision between a Ford Mustang and an SUV in Pasadena Wednesday left two occupants of the car dead and the other two hospitalized with moderate injuries.

The crash happened about 7 a.m. at Lake Avenue and East Villa Street, said Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department.

According to police, the 2003 Mustang, which caromed into a utility pole after colliding with the SUV, was occupied by three men and a teenage boy, all from Pasadena.

The 23-year-old driver died at a hospital. The front passenger, a 17- year-old boy, died at the scene. The rear-seat passengers, ages 22 and 27, were hospitalized with moderate injuries.

The names of the dead were withheld, pending notification of their relatives.

A 46-year-old Los Angeles woman who was driving a 2006 Kia Sorrento SUV suffered a minor injury.

The cause of the crash was under investigation. Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call police at (626) 744-7159.
